The old history seems big and great.
Why? Because it has already grown.
The new history seems small.
Why? Because it is growing now.
Let’s miniaturize history and look at it as if it were your own life.
Consider [what you thought of and did] prior to the time you were 10,
prior to the time you were 20, prior to the time you were 30,
and prior to the time you were 40.
Check and see what you thought of and did every decade while
you grew more continuously.
Wasn’t your life before growing and after growing different?
It is the same with the new history.
When it has just begun and has not yet advanced much, its achievement is little.
But when the new history grows up, t
he old history cannot compete with the new history.
