Suwon Glory Church Hosts the Faith Olympics

The Faith Olympics is a team competition in which different teams accumulate points. Points are awarded for various activities that are needed for perfectly rapturing your spirit, soul, and body. For example, if you connect a newcomer to the church for the first time, you receive 300 points. If you work in Wolmyeongdong (WMD) for one day, you receive 100 points and if you clean the church, you receive 50 points. Also, an individual’s pre-dawn prayer, time of reading the Word, praise, house cleaning, and various other activities that need to be done through the day are made into games so that they can be carried out in a more fun way.

Everyday, each team informs the person in charge of their score. Then the ranking of each team for the entire week is presented during the Sunday service announcements. Each team shouts, “Fighting!” and considers categories in which they can earn more points for their team in order to plan to raise their ranking a little bit more. In this way, teams harmonize and a vibrant church atmosphere begins to form.

Since “evangelism” awards the highest points, people advertise the church more actively to their close acquaintances. Also when it comes to cleaning the church temple, which also awards many points, everyone participates joyfully and receives points saying it is like killing two birds with one stone. Like this, everyone is enthusiastically participating in the competition.

 Now that we are already halfway through the competition, the difference in points has become greater. However, because events such as evangelism and the Olympics’ general competition events remain, there could be a last minute reversal to the scores. The host says that is hard to predict who will win until the end. To all those who are challenging [themselves] to receive the gold medal, as well as to reach the 300 peak, I applaud you.
