A flower, it blooms and withers away,
Life, too, it blooms for a moment and then withers away like a herb flower.
But, oh, pine tree,
you are
bright green in all seasons,
you do not know how to wither away.
According to the law of the Creator,
one with an upright heart lasts a hundred years
and a tree with upright root lasts a thousand years,
but you are the tree.
I, too, like you with upright root,
want to straighten up my heart and point it up to the sky,
and live a thousand years.
