[Poems of Inspiration] Joeun Sori, December 2010
I Miss You So
There, in that remote
faraway land,
I heard that I could see the face of my beloved.
A thousand miles isn’t far
if it means being able to see my beloved.
But of all days, why today?
The steam fog,
thick and heavy,
obstructs my view.
My heart tears.
What should I do?
If our set time passes,
the face of my beloved will vanish before me,
so I will see him no more.
Hey, Steam Fog,
why must you cause
my shimjeong
and my beloved’s shimjeong to burn?
I must see his face
for this story to remain in my heart.
Then when I miss his face,
I will live
while holding onto this story.
Oh, dear Sun,
I beseech you; please drag away
that steam fog.
My heart grows somber
as I see, faintly in the fog,
my beloved’s silhouette.
With my thoughts tumbling deeper,
I start to sob.
Though situated so far far away
and without a sound,
My beloved conveys his heart
through various gestures of body and hand,
such that His fiery love
reach and touch
my heart.
Matching my beloved, I, too,
will live my life undauntedly
like that.
With determination,
I fill myself with
my beloved’s heart and my beloved’s mentality
and return home,
deeply moved.
