“Stop going on the computer and come out to eat.”
My mom was calling me.
I barely got up from the computer.
‘What kind of book should I read while I am eating? Harry Potter could be good?’
While I was taking my time to come out from the room, I heard something from the kitchen again.
I arrived at the dining table with a book and then went into the restroom.
I heard my mom’s nagging from outside the restroom.
“Why do you and your sister act like that when you guys need to eat?”
and sighed when I saw the meal on the dining table.
There was Kimchi, stir-fried anchovies, seasoned dried radish, and seaweed on the table.
My mom put a mountain of rice in my bowl and poured seaweed soup into my soup bowl until it overflowed.
“Mom, are you raising a daughter or a goat? These are all vegetables.
And why did you give me seaweed soup when it’s hot? Oh my God, and why did you give me so much rice?”
“You can finish it all in a few scoops.”
“You try it then, mom.”
“Why are you talking so much when it is not even you who cooks? Is it too difficult for you to just pick up your spoon?”
Now that I have a son and am raising him, I have come to be in the same situation as my mom.
Feeding my son is always a war. I feed him after I go through the whole process of grocery shopping, then washing, cutting, cooking, and seasoning the food. However, this boy hardly opens his mouth. Only when I entertain or play with him, he starts eating little by little. Whenever he takes one bite, I am so thankful. Wait, is it something that I should be thankful for? Actually he is the one who should be thankful. Anyways, whenever I feed him, this absurd situation happens, in which I am thankful to my child that he is eating. Wow, you boy…
“You shake your head after glancing at the meal that mom prepared for you? I feed you so that you can grow,do you think I feed you for my own pleasure?”
God is also telling us.
“What have you done?
I created Heaven and Earth and human beings and prepared everything you need in order to live, but what do you guys do?
When I made the sun, the moon, the earth, mountains, water and plants, did you make even one thing? For you, I made everything 100% ahead of time. I just told you to enjoy what I made for you on what I created and live well while believing and loving the one whom I sent, but can you not even do that?”
What my mom told me,
What I told my son,
and what God told us is,
“I prepared the whole meal for you but can you not even pick up your spoon and eat it?”
