“What’s that note?”
When I ask for a note that is improvised, the choirmaster shows me what note it is.
I tend to stick to the sheet music. When I sing, I only stop feeling nervous after I check the key and the tempo by looking through the music sheet first.
“That doesn’t make sense! That can’t be like that.”
“Are you going to analyze the comedy show while you watch it?”
My husband talks like this when I criticize a comedy show.
I don’t usually laugh during comedy shows.
“Seo-yeon and Do-yun have a big age difference so I think they do not know how to enjoy. Wait...when I think about that right now, Seo-yeon did before….”
When I talk about it, my husband seems uninterested.
His response is more like he wonders why I am so diligently analyzing something not very significant.
I have asked my husband like this so many times.
“I am not saying that I won’t do it. I’m just asking because I’m wondering. So can you tell me why?”
When I don’t understand, I always ask, “why?” It is because I can agree and take action when I understand.
I always ask, “why?”, analyze and nitpick things.
However, even though I am like this, there is one rule that I keep for myself.
When I listen to the Word, I never ask, “Why?” first.
One thing I realized from dozens of years of living a life of faith is that God speaks thinking at a much higher level. With my brain, it takes so long to understand what God really means from His Word and then take action. Understanding everything He says completely is just impossible too.
The best thing I can do is to wait.
God has resolved what I had questions about through the Word and helped me to realize and understand in daily life.
I have heard the saying, “Think while running.”
It means to say “amen” first and then think in your head, “why?” while taking action upon the Word. The Word is always right so it is beneficial to take action quickly, and also if you realize the meaning of the Word even later, you can take action more correctly so it is more beneficial to you.
God’s Word makes even a person like me say, “amen” and run first.
I confess, even today, that this is truly the best, absolute truth.
