Fine Dust vs Sin

I will put all kinds of sins into the washing machine of repentance and wash them using the ‘Heavy Wash’ cycle.

I hung my clothes up outside on the patio after they had gone through the washing machine. However I was unable to open up my patio window because the dust in the air was far too dense. The clothes hanging on the clothesline were literally caged in the patio because the window was tightly shut. Without any cracks allowing in fresh air from the outside, the clothes were hanging there in full humidity. Whenever the density of dust in the atmosphere reduces to become moderate, I open the window. I desperately hoped that the dust would go away.

I grew more desperate, as dust in the atmosphere was hindering me from being able to dry my laundry, ventilate the house and take my children out for outdoor activities. I realized the value of being clean, and with that, I could not help but think about sin and repentance.

Repentance means to be regretful of one’s wrongdoing and to reform oneself. To explain repentance more deeply and in terms of faith, it means to have the realization and conviction that one has sinned before God, to recognize one’s sinful nature through God’s grace to save sinners, and then to ultimately turn away from sin. All of this is repentance.

No one is distant from sin, whether it be believers or non-believers. Sin does not only include serious crimes. No one is separate from sin, even small sins. Sins are committed with the mouth, the heart and through actions.

Today, I will put all kinds of sins into the washing machine of repentance and wash them using the ‘Heavy Wash’ cycle. And I will shake off all my sin, confess them to God in the name of the Lord and hang them on the clothesline. I believe that they will surely be dried by the sunshine of God’s abundant grace and the wind of the Holy Spirit. Then I will put clothes that are clean, white, fine and soft on my spirit and body.
