Double styesby 주아나

One day, my husband asked me, with one eye closed, “Don’t you think my left eye looks swollen?”

The color of my husband’s eyelid was dazzling, as if he had put light cobalt pink eyeshadow on it.

It seemed as though something had clogged inside his eye, and he could not even open his eye halfway.

It was a stye.

“It will go away if you rest for a few days. Sometimes you get them because you are tired.”

After two days, my husband’s eye had swelled more. His eye was so swollen that he could hardly open it.

He joked with me and said that when he went to church, he squealed on me to our pastor, saying, “My wife hit me,” while crying in tears. Then he covered his eye with his hand and said, “Do you think I would look cool if I wore an eye patch? Do I look like Gung-yae*?

(Translator’s note: Gung-yae is the King of the Later Goguryeo Dynasty. He lost one of his eyes when he was young, so he is known as the king with an eye patch.)

‘Gosh … he is playing around in this way even though he has a stye …’

Finally, he went to an eye clinic and his doctor squeezed out the pus and prescribed him some antibiotics.

The doctor said that the eye would heal more quickly if it was well aerated, so there was no need for an eye patch.

My husband, who was not able to be Gung-yeo, was very sad.

A few days later, my husband said that his right eye had now become itchy.

He also said that whenever he blinked his eye, it felt dry, as if there were some foreign substances in the eye.

Well … he went to see the eye doctor, and afterwards he said that the doctor had squeezed the little lump of pus out of his right eye.

“Damn double styes….”

He was definitely not cursing*, but I felt my husband’s frustration.

(Translator’s Note: “Double” sounds like one of curse words in Korean.)

He seemed a bit irritated since he had to go to work and church with both eyes having become swollen in turn.

‘But … it is weird.

Other families are fine - why did only my husband get styes?

He goes about acting as if he is cleaner and neater than me, so why did he get styes?

Did he secretly watch something that he was not supposed to watch when he was by himself? It’s suspicious~’

I could not stop thinking that there must be a reason for the styes.

That night, my husband was talking with someone on Kakaotalk. Afterwards, he looked unsettled.

“Why, what happened?”

“My friend keeps recommending his church mission to me since he is moving somewhere far away and he says that there are no young male leaders in the church.”

“Why not? It would be good for you if you do it.”

“A mission already? We just moved to this church. I still feel awkward around the church members and there is a lot of work to do at my job. Furthermore, I am already busy with some other video work.”

As soon as I heard this, I exclaimed ,clapping my hands without thinking.
As soon as I heard this, I exclaimed ,clapping my hands without thinking.
“Ah! That’s why you got the styes! Apostle Paul was also blinded before he changed his heart!
He met Ananias according to the Lord’s Will and recovered his eyesight by following Ananias’ lead!
Maybe it is an a revelation through the eyes, revealing that you need to take the mission?”
“What are you talking about? [I have styes] because there is a lot of pollen and dust in the season of spring. Why are you applying [Apostle Paul’s] story to me?”
My husband was waving his hands in denial, saying it was nonsense.

I put both of my hands together and prayed secretly, standing behind my husband as he put in the antibiotic eye drops.

‘Lord, if the styes were a revelation through the eyes that You gave to my husband, please do not let his eyes heal by means of the eye drops, but let them heal when he takes the mission … Amen.^^’

(P.S: Three days after he had gone to see the eye doctor, this morning (the 16th), another stye appeared under his right eye!!! Three styes … I was just whispering about it to the Lord as a funny joke, but is it really a revelation?)
